God’s People Prior to the Cross of Jesus Christ
Even before Jesus Christ gave His life on the Cross to make us clean in the eyes of God, God’s people were full of faith. That faith is what the church is founded on and sets an example for us to follow. Like our ancestors, we anticipate the promise of the New Jerusalem. Our ancestors were thrown out into the open field from day one of their existence and were despised. Nevertheless, they had faith for the promised land. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Anyone who comes to Him must believe that he exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews chapter 11 is an excellent review of the faith of our ancestors. Our ancestors are commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. That promise is the promise of the New Jerusalem through Jesus Christ. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect. Jesus Christ is that better plan.

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Jerusalem: Your ancestry and birth were in the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths.” Ezekiel 16:3-4

Church of Christ Blossoms from Time of Christ through 1930’s
God saw our ancestors suffering and enduring in their faith to receive the promised land, and He sent His Son Jesus Christ to further prepare the world for His return. That preparation included the development of the church. No longer would His people be living like nomads, but now His church would flourish around the world and be firmly established in civilization. That is exactly what happened between the time of Jesus Christ through the 1930’s. Those with a testimony for Jesus Christ grew, and grew, and grew. Christ’s name is now spread around the world. The fame of our ancestors has spread everywhere. A beautiful description of Christ’s church is given from verses 7-14 in this chapter of Ezekiel.

“‘Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, “Live!” I made you grow like a plant of the field.” “And your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, because the splendor I had given you made your beauty perfect, declares the Sovereign Lord.” Ezekiel 16:6-7,14

Church Falls Since the time of the New World Order in the 1940’s
The church of today has thrown away all the ancestry of the Christian faith, discarded the sacrifice that Jesus made on the Cross, and have no faith for the promised land of the New Jerusalem. They gave away their Christian heritage to the New World Order, which governs by the internal government through the mark of the beast. It was in the 1940’s that the New World Order was established. Since then, the church has lost the beauty of its heritage that comes through the Word of God. There has been an enormous falling away from the message of the Cross. The church now offers up their children to the system of the human robots, those who live by the mark of the beast. Verses 15-22 is a beautifully spoken description of that.

“You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them. And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them.” Ezekiel 16:17-18

Church Sucks Up to City Government
The church is building itself up in collaboration with city governments and they have a church on every street corner. That is exactly the way it is today. With me being born in 1959, it’s the norm except I know the city’s relationship to human sentiments and the Spirit of Jesus Christ. That relationship is described in one word, hostile. Ezekiel makes sense of why there are so many churches in an era that lives by the mark of the beast. The church is sucking up to the internal government by which the city governs by. The church is actually providing favors to the city to solicit the city’s nod of approval. The city doesn’t have to offer a thing to solicit the church’s compliance. The church gets nothing Christian in exchange as they give away their heritage. The dominion of the church is reduced, and they surrender their authority to the system of the human robots. In exchange, they begin to experience worldly prosperity. They prefer the system of the internal government over Jesus Christ. The verses 23-34 of this chapter describes this with very descriptive words.

“‘Woe! Woe to you, declares the Sovereign Lord. In addition to all your other wickedness, you built a mound for yourself and made a lofty shrine in every public square. At every street corner you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, spreading your legs with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by. Ezekiel 16:23-25

Church Loses its Christian Splendor and are Persecuted
“Dancing with the devil” is a term that I’m familiar with and describes what is happening here. In the previous verses, the church is sucking up to the community that governs through the mark of the beast. They are sucking up to the human robots and are paying a severe price. First of all, they gave the church congregation to the city by persuading the congregants to take the mark of the beast. Now, the internal government is controlling the church and everything the church stood for is stripped. The whole heritage of the church, the Word of God, the Spirit of Jesus Christ, everything is being devasted by the human robots. They have taken over the church which leads to the persecution of those who once belonged to Christ’s fellowship. Those of the church will suffer bloodshed and be violently attacked even to death. Ezekiel 16:35-42 describes this

“Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you stark naked. They will bring a mob against you, who will stone you and hack you to pieces with their swords.” Ezekiel 16:39-40

The Church Forgot the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Those who occupy the church of today have done something very wrong. They have forgotten about their ancestors, the people of faith who gave everything for the promises of God. The church has forfeited Jesus Christ and the promise of the New Jerusalem. Today’s church has turned their back on God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit and those who have a testimony for Jesus Christ. They have turned to the lifestyle governed by the mark of the beast and their behavior is detestable. What the church of today is doing is much worse than the Godless cities in the days of their ancestors. The church of today makes those Godless cities look righteous in comparison. That’s because the church is outright making war against human sentiments and the Spirit of Christ. They are molding human robots by encouraging people to live by the internal government. They feel a sense of self-importance, are blasphemous, arrogant, unconcerned, and do not help those who are rejected by the system of human robots. Verses 43-50 describes this.

“‘Because you did not remember the days of your youth but enraged me with all these things, I will surely bring down on your head what you have done, declares the Sovereign Lord. Did you not add lewdness to all your other detestable practices?Ezekiel 16:43

Today’s Church Given Worldly Wealth
The church of today has their prosperity, liveliness, congregations and all of the other worldly comforts. Those are the churches that align themselves with the internal government of the city that they are in. What they don’t have is Jesus Christ nor the message of the Cross. They have returned to the days of wandering without Jesus Christ. They will suffer the consequences of God’s judgment. Verses 53-58 describes that.

“‘However, I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters and of Samaria and her daughters, and your fortunes along with them, so that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all you have done in giving them comfort. And your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to what they were before; and you and your daughters will return to what you were before.” Ezekiel 16:53-55

The Lord Gives the Church the Judgment they Deserve
The church will face judgment for violating the promises that God has given us through Jesus Christ. Even then, God will remember the promises He made and will spare those who hold true to the testimony of Jesus Christ. The faithful few will inherit God’s eternal promise of the New Jerusalem. Even today, there is still an open invitation to come to God through the Cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus reconciles us when we carry His testimony and reject the mark of the beast.

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will deal with you as you deserve, because you have despised my oath by breaking the covenant. Yet I will remember the covenant I made with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you.” Ezekiel 16:59
