Submission to Earthly Institutions as a Follower of Jesus Christ

1 Peter 2:13-17

submit yourselves to every institution of man for the Lord’s sake

Every human-made institution includes lots and lots of agencies in the communities nowadays. There are so many institutions that communities cannot function without them. The people who are empowered with authority to govern those institutions are multitudes. As followers of Jesus Christ, we submit to their guidelines, we are not rebels! That is plainly said by Jesus Christ, “In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out, as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take Me? I sat daily with you, teaching in the temple, and you did not seize Me. Matthew 26:55

There are multiple institutional guidelines that I have to follow just to survive on basic human needs. Periodically, I have to recertify my application for SNAP benefits, and follow their guidelines for reporting any changes in my circumstances. They have no interest in hearing about Jesus Christ! Every year, I have to recertify for housing assistance and with that comes an inspection of my apartment. Every inspector that comes makes an effort to ignore the manger display, the 24″ Cross, and the banner that says, “Normal Isn’t Coming Back, Jesus Is. Revelation 14.” They are Christless. Every year, I renew my apartment lease, so I follow the several pages of guidelines in order to maintain my apartment. I have to abide by their guidelines of not hanging a Christian flag at my front door etc. I feel fortunate to be approved every year to receive food and to have a place to live, “Therefore submit yourselves to every institution of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good.”

Those who live by the mark of the beast despises those who live for the teachings of the Bible. They make it their purpose to blaspheme God and to discredit those who devote their body to the Holy Spirit. I know they would be thrilled if they were able to speak out against me to any of the earthly institutions that I have to report to every year. For the sake of the testimony of Jesus Christ, not for fear of the malicious accusations, I submit myself to institutional expectations. When I was working, there were constant barrages of malicious accusations that I had to answer to, which were totally opposite of the life I live in the Spirit of Christ. I survived each one, but I had to suffer constant stress, strife, conflict, and physical burdens. If I ever detoured from the teachings of the Bible, I would have been severely punished for dishonoring those with authority over me. I never used my reputation as a “glutton for hardships” as an opportunity to do anything outside the will of God. “For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for wickedness, but as bondservants of God.

While I uphold the testimony of Jesus Christ, which attracts constant harassment, I make the effort to honor all people and those who are empowered with authority. I especially give reverence to God and have love in my heart for those who hold to the testimony of Jesus.

“Therefore submit yourselves to every institution of man for the Lord’s sake, whether to the king as supreme,
or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers
and for the praise of those who do good.
For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men—
as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for wickedness, but as bondservants of God.
Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.”
1 Peter 2:13-17

“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
