Saul was sifting through all the letters sent to a specific church in search of the followers of Jesus Christ. He must have gotten an eye full because he started on his way to the suspected church to make arrests. I believe that he was thinking about what was written in those letters when he saw the great Light of Jesus Christ that led to his conversion.

Checking Emails, Texts, and Snail Mail of Dissenters.
Today, it’s constantly heard about how mail is subpoenaed by authorities to track down people who oppose them. From the most powerful to the least powerful, court orders are issued to have all types of mail handed over to the investigating authorities. That’s exactly what Saul was doing, “He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus.” Today, anyone who opposes those who govern by the unGodly presence of the mark of the beast are watched, their mail is under surveillance, and is being archived. That definitely includes the followers of Jesus Christ, especially the most influential of God’s people, and most certainly the large churches.
No one escapes the vigilantly jealous and unGodly eyes of those rule by the mark of the beast. There are email scandals of the politically powerful, social media posts are archived and watched to track down potentially violent people, CEO’s of social platforms are constantly under fire to strengthen their policing of hostile entities, text messages are constantly used in courts against community violators, and the list goes on. It’s no secret, any message sent in any form is being tracked and archived. The best part of all this is that no one escapes the eyes of the all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present God who has a Son named Jesus Christ. He has books that archives everything that everyone has ever done, and all Believers will be archived in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Personally, I do not receive any messaging at all. My USPS mailbox is there only to receive official notices and junk mail. My cell phone is used so rarely that mt service provider has put me on an unlimited data, text, and minutes plan at no extra charge. When I think of the emptiness of my social life I think of the words of Jesus, “Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life will preserve it.“
“Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples.
He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus,
so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women,
he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.”
Acts 9:1-2
Light of Jesus Christ is Seen.
Saul had been reading all of those letters sent to the followers of Jesus Christ. He would have to have known the names of the people he intended to arrest and why they were been arrested. That means all those words written about Christ’s death, His resurrection, and the infilling of the Holy Spirit would be swarming in his mind and emotions. I would like to think that those letters had a role to play in Saul’s conversion. Yet, he was on his way to the hot spot of Christian activity to arrest them and throw them in jail. Men and women. On his way there, he saw a great light and heard a voice, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” It was then that Saul became acquainted with the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Today, the community of believers have been scattered and there appears to be a few who are faithful to the testimony of Jesus Christ. That’s the way it will be until the return of Jesus Christ. But where do the new converts come from to maintain the few numbers of Christians? I believe some of them will come from among those who are reading the seized and archived emails, texts, snail-mail, social media posts, and every type of messaging. The new converts will be the ones who are among those typing in the names on the arrest warrants and the reason for the arrests. It does happen, Edward Snowden didn’t like what he was reading relating to government surveillance and became a whistleblower. I’m certainly not vouching for him in anyway because I don’t know his personal beliefs, but it definitely shows that people leave their government loyalties based on a deeper commitment.
There will be something deep within the thoughts and emotions of those in charge of the message archives that speak to the Saul within them, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” They will begin to not act on the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are given from those who govern by the mark of the beast. They will see the Light of Jesus Christ and begin to get to know Him by asking, “Who are you, Lord?” Jesus will reply, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” Their work through the Holy Spirit is just beginning from that point.
“As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him,
“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied.
“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
Acts 9:3-6
Companions Hear but do not See.
I know during my conversion to the way of Christ I saw a Light bright enough to blind me to a lot of things. I actually found myself saying, “I don’t know,” a lot more than when I was living in opposition to God’s Salvation plan. Being a new convert, and surrounded by people who are hostile to Christianity, it is not a good time to be spilling the beans on their unGodly activity. They hear the noise surrounding the Gospel, but they don’t see the Savior Jesus Christ. I found it best to say, “I don’t know, I don’t see,” and then solicit some type of help from them until I could break from them completely.
It would be difficult to be a new Christian sitting on top of archives of Christian messages, with the task of choosing which followers of Christ to arrest. To be surrounded by people living for the mark of the beast, bent on persecuting anyone who supports the cause of Christ, it would be best to be blind for a few days. Co-workers, those working to dig up dirt and arrest Christians, hear the noise in the message archives, but they don’t see the Savior Jesus Christ. For a new Christian, it would be a time of not digesting anymore message archives, a time to take a “short break.”
Saul saw the great Light of Jesus Christ and it blinded him for three days. Those who were with him, armed with Christian arrest warrants, heard all the noise coming from Christ but they didn’t see Him like Saul saw Him. They didn’t see the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. At that point Saul is a new Christian, surrounded by men sworn to arrest Christians. But Saul is blind and doesn’t see, so they lead him by the hand to the city where the Christians are to be arrested. Instead, it would never happen at Saul’s hands, he would not be eating nor drinking during his blindness.
“The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless;
they heard the sound but did not see anyone.
Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes, he could see nothing.
So, they led him by the hand into Damascus.
For three days he was blind and did not eat or drink anything.”
Acts 9:7-9
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
