Devote Life to Jesus Christ.
I was baptized in an Ohio creek called Paint Creek, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience by any means. Everyone pulled their cars alongside the sandbar, and we all walked towards the edge of the water. The current was a little more rapid than anyone would have wanted it to be, but we all decided to do the baptisms. When it came my turn, I was dipped under the water, and one of the two men holding me lost their grip for just a second, and I started to be carried downstream. They caught me. Still, water ran up my nose and it felt awful, still I was baptized. The point is that I wanted to show my commitment to living for Jesus Christ. By no means did I receive the Holy Spirit on that day.
Not everyone can be baptized in water for one reason or another, and nowadays there are even government ordinances against swimming in unsafe waters, like Paint Creek. The Holy Spirit will come without water baptism. Being submerged in water isn’t all that is involved in being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. I was baptized into Jesus Christ in many other ways also. I submerged myself in the reading of the Scriptures every day, I submerged myself in prayer, I submerged myself with other Believers, I submerged myself in sharing how Christ changed my life, I submerged myself in Church activity (When the churches were still honoring Jesus Christ), and in every way imaginable I baptized myself in the name of Jesus Christ. I separated myself from the unGodly activities of the world.
If a person is going to receive the Holy Spirit, it will happen by baptizing ourselves into everything related to Jesus Christ. It’s necessary to be submerged in prayer, Scripture reading, fellowship with Believers (Today, Believers are scattered but joined in the Spirit), sharing the testimony of Jesus Christ, etc. It’s essential to baptize ourselves in the name of Jesus Christ so that we can be baptized in the Holy Spirit. It’s also necessary to avoid the sorceries that come by the thing that has power over physiology, and can form emotions, behaviors, and thoughts. A totally evil person (led by the mark of the beast) can lay their hands on a person, say a prayer, and make the person feel like they received something important. But it is only emotional and physiological, it has nothing to do with receiving the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus.
“When the Apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God,
they sent Peter and John to Samaria.
When they arrived, they prayed for the new Believers there that they
might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them;
they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.”
Can’t Offer Things in Exchange for the Holy Spirit.
There is no shortcut for receiving the Holy Spirit, it’s necessary to live a life devoted to Jesus Christ. It means to have a heart full of prayer, to read the Scriptures daily, to join our hearts with the faithful and few that have been scattered in this evil world, to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to separate from this unGodly world. If someone thinks that they have received the Holy Spirit and their life is not submerged into Jesus Christ, then they have something else. They have the thing that has power over physiology and is able to create feelings and emotions to mimic the Holy Spirit. It’s the mark of the beast.
Simon was a person who was baptized in water and followed external protocols, as described in Acts 8:9-13. But he was full of bitterness and a hostage to sin. There is only one reason that he wanted the Holy Spirit, so that he would have an amazing thing that people would pay money to possess. Simon himself offered to give money for the Holy Spirit. Same as giving money and self to charitable causes doesn’t make a person any closer to receiving the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit isn’t for personal enrichment and can’t be bought, His only purpose is to glorify Jesus Christ and to spread the Gospel. Simon was wanting what everyone today wants, the “Great Power of God” which is the mark of the beast. It personally enriches those who live by its inner presence. The enrichment is not just material prosperity, but enhancements in aspects of physiology and formed emotions, thoughts, behavior, and physical ability.
“When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the Apostles’ hands,
he offered them money and said,
“Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
A Heart Right with God Receives the Holy Spirit.
A heart that is right with God is the only way to receive the Holy Spirit. When a person’s heart is right with God, the person will be fully baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. That is a heart free of bitterness and liberated from sin. The person is baptized in prayer, Bible reading, spreading the Gospel, etc. There is no way to receive the Holy Spirit with worldly things and protocols. The Holy Spirit does not infill a person who lives a life with barriers to Jesus Christ. By trying to skirt the testimony of Jesus a person’s heart is not right with God. As Peter said, “You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.”
The present world system governs by the mark of the beast and thinks it can buy the Holy Spirit through the International Monetary Fund. They use words that sound Holy such as “global democracy,” “love and support,” etc. but it’s more than obvious that this world is not baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. They do not share the Gospel of Christ, they do not devote themselves to the Bible, they do not devote themselves to prayer, and they are certainly not establishing fellowship in the name of Jesus. This world is bitter and captive to sin. As the Bible says, economic chaos is coming, and as Peter tells Simon, “May your money perish with you,
because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
“Peter answered: “May your money perish with you,
because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!
You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.”
Turn Away from UnGodly Thoughts.
Repenting from unGodly thoughts is as simple as not acting on and not believing what comes to mind. I’ve said to myself, “I’m sorry I thought that” but even then, I didn’t even dare believe what I heard and definitely did not act on the thought. It’s onward and forward with Bible reading and sharing the Gospel.
To receive the Holy Spirit, it’s necessary to turn away from anything that puts a stop to being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. That especially means to reject the mark of the beast because it influences thoughts, emotions, and behaviors away from Bible reading, tramples on prayer, scatters Christian fellowship, prohibits sharing the Good News, and has polluted the churches.
We have to let go of the things that make us bitter, which I can name plenty, such as when a co-worker got my .50 cent raise because I wouldn’t verbally fight for it with anger and hostility. I am not going to let those bitter things hold me captive to sin. Those are things that prohibit the baptism in the Holy Spirit. I had to learn to live at peace with all people, to separate myself from the ways of this world, and to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. To a Holy Spirit filled person, to glorify Jesus and to spread the Gospel is more important than anything in this Godless world.
“Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that
He may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart.
For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.”
Then Simon answered,
“Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”
Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Being baptized in the Holy Spirit is to continue lifting the banner of the testimony of Jesus Christ. All through Acts the phrase, “Being filled with the Holy Spirit…..” is always followed by the words of someone who glorifies the name of Jesus Christ and shares the Word of God with a fiery tongue. It was the Holy Spirit who spoke through Peter against bitterness and captivity to sin.
“After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus,
Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the Gospel in many Samaritan villages.”
“….to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets,“
‘I will not impose any other burden on you, except to hold on to what you have until I come.’”
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”
Revelation 2:24-25, 3:11
