Resurrection of Dry Bones
I had to ask myself, “Where was Israel before 1948?” There was no Israel before 1948, not as a sovereign nation. They were laid out like dry scattered bones all around the world. There was no hope for them to be a nation and their heritage wasn’t much to brag about anymore. Their scattered history of slain and dry bones also includes their very, very, horrid slaughter during the Holocaust under Hitler’s Germany. It was impossible for them to make a rebound, and not realistic to dream of having their own nation called Israel. But it happened in 1948! When the new world order was forming right after WW2, forming under the mark of the beast, Israel miraculously became a nation. Israelites migrated to Israel from all over the world, and new life was breathed into their dry bones. They live as a nation today.

For those of us who are adopted into the family of God’s people through Jesus Christ, we will be resurrected. Our dry bones will be lifted from the grave and we will share eternal life in the New Jerusalem with the faithful of God’s original people.

“Then he said to me: “Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ Therefore, prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’” Ezekiel 37:11-14

One Nation
When the nation of Israel was formed in 1948, it enabled Israel to be one nation and not divided between one tribe and the other. These verses also signify something more for those of us who are joined to the family of God through Jesus Christ. Romans 11:11-31 is an excellent explanation of that relationship. Verse 24, puts it concisely, “For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.” Because we are adopted into God’s family through Jesus Christ, we will be with the Israelites under one ruler, that ruler is Jesus Christ. The New Jerusalem is not just the nation founded in 1948, but it is a place that will exist after the present heaven and earth passes away. In the New Jerusalem, with a new heaven and new earth, Jesus Christ will rule over the Israelites and us, the saved Gentiles. We will be one people and God will be our God.

“The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, take a stick of wood and write on it, ‘Belonging to Judah and the Israelites associated with him.’ Then take another stick of wood, and write on it, ‘Belonging to Joseph (that is, to Ephraim) and all the Israelites associated with him.’ Join them together into one stick so that they will become one in your hand.” Ezekiel 37:15-17

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land. I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.” Ezekiel 37:21-22

Jesus Christ King of kings in the Eternal Sanctuary
Jesus Christ is the King of kings and the Good Shepherd.

“‘My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees. They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever. I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever. My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people. Then the nations will know that I the Lord make Israel Holy, when my sanctuary is among them forever.’” Ezekiel 37:24-27
