Creator’s Church or Creature’s Church?

I worked at a Church/Christian school for about 6 years and was required to work Sundays from 7am to 3pm. They have several hundred people in attendance each Sunday morning. I’m always ready for conversation with church people about Jesus but that conversation was hard to find. There were some regulars who knew me, and we conversed every week but rarely about scriptures. The majority of the congregants didn’t know me by name, and I didn’t know them by name either, neither did we talk to each other. The odd part is that all of the church leaders and school leaders (including Sunday School teachers) knew me and greeted me “warmly.” Some would even make sure that they encountered me sometime in the course of church hours just to say “hi”. I find it weird that those with persuasion over the congregation could talk with me, but the general congregation did not! This scripture seems very fitting, “Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in Him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.” John 12:42-43

I tried to vocalize Jesus’s name from a different angle. Once, I said that 2000 years ago, on the side of the world where God’s Children were born, the Roman Empire and the Egyptian pyramids were built. Then I mentioned the other side of the world and I made the comparison of where the American Indians were in their development 2000 years ago. The best response was, “Yep!” But they excitedly engaged in conversations about hunting, ATV vehicles, fishing, and things connected with natural ways, the free spirit, the wild side. One of the youth pastors had a son who had a couple cage fights, won one by TKO lost one by rear naked choke. That conversation was pleasant and could have lasted awhile. Every Sunday the pastor would use elaborate props in his “preaching”. For example, he actually used ramps to bring props onto the stage. He has used a real 12′ fishing boat, a real ATV, a 6’x6′ boxing ring, a crossbow for hunting, etc. I can only think of this scripture, “…for that they exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” Romans1:25

There are quite a few obstacles to overcome in this world but here is a promise, “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” Revelations 2:7
